Educational Methods We Follow

Heuristic Play

At Little Prairie Learning Center, we utilize heuristic play methodology with our infants and toddlers. Heuristic learning is centered around the idea of “discovery by trial and error.” Our teachers give the children treasure baskets with easy-to-find items that the children can explore with their senses. Through the child’s explorations, they’re answering fundamental questions like “What is this and what can I do with it?” These activities support the child’s cognitive and vocabulary development.

Montessori Education

The Montessori Method is based on self directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the teacher offers age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to dive deeper into their skills. A Montessori classroom is designed to meet the needs of the child in their specific age range. It’s designed to be at their eye level. The Montessori method focuses on five key areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Cultural Studies.

Every material in a Montessori classroom supports an aspect of child development. Children can learn through their own experiences and at their own pace and build a solid foundation for life-long learning.
The Montessori Method creates independence, social skills, consistency and order, concentration, supports emotional skills, encourages problem solving, and many more benefits.
